A Window to the Self: The Johari Window Framework

Many years ago a friend mentioned that his boss had shed light on some blind spots around his communication style at work. I had no idea what in the world he was talking about, so he explained that the term came from a tool his company had recently utilized in employee performance reviews.

The Johari window is a conceptual framework that divides the way people relate to themselves and others into four ‘panes’: the open self, hidden self, blind self, and unknown self.
