Living In The Mystery
--
A secret to living life with an open heart and an open mind.
It is hard to stay living in the mystery because it’s hard to live in uncertainty and have negative capability. After all, in life, there are often multiple valid interpretations of the same events, difficult decisions often require sacrifice, transitions are uncomfortable, and trust is vulnerable.
Life shapes people and there are always things each person looks back and regrets, knowing if they had known better they would have done things differently. It’s hard to accept that living in uncertainty and having negative capability means you will make mistakes. But, let yourself be human. We’re all going to screw up and make mistakes. It is a Great Truth, it is human nature.
Living in the mystery can be hard but it is worthwhile. Life is a realm of things unnoticed. When you live in the mystery, you can be dazzled by happy accidents and engage in highly creative acts that are an expression of your deepest essence. Which is what becoming who you truly are is all about. As an anonymous Christian once prayed while learning Zen practices:
The Eternal Mystery: O Supreme Eternal Reality, Pure Being beyond all subject and object, beyond all cerebral thinking, Unconceptualizable and Unverbalizable, dwelling in silence, I long to experience the nameless, incomprehensible being, as Moses did at the Burning Bush, burning and nerve consumed, a higher consciousness, before which I can only bow in silence and reverence, glimpsing indescribable suchness and eternal mystery.
So, as you go about your day, may you live life with an open mind and an open heart, embracing the ineffable mystery of being alive in this place and time.
